With over two decades of experience in healthcare, Shannon Hurst has built her career around a deep passion for patient care, clinical excellence, and a relentless pursuit of root causes to drive meaningful improvement. She earned her nursing degree from Nevada State University, Las Vegas, and later pursued her MBA at Roseman University, equipping herself with the expertise to bridge clinical care, operational leadership, and patient safety.
As a seasoned nurse, leader, and patient safety expert, Shannon has developed a unique ability to translate complex medical information into clear, actionable solutions. Her work reflects a steadfast commitment to improving healthcare systems from the inside out and a passion for advancing the critical intersection between medicine and the law.
Shannon began her career as a bedside nurse, where she spent more than 12 years providing hands-on care across a variety of acute care settings. This foundation gave her an invaluable, patient-centered perspective that continues to shape her approach today. Transitioning into leadership roles, she successfully led intermediate care units (IMC) and oncology teams, driving both clinical excellence and operational efficiency.
Her passion for uncovering the "why" behind adverse events led her to specialize in patient safety, where for the past seven years she has focused on root cause analysis, system improvements, and fostering a culture of accountability. Most recently, Shannon has provided market-level oversight for patient safety and risk management across multiple hospitals and emergency departments in the Charleston region, further refining her ability to analyze systems, processes, and standards of care at scale.
Now, as the founder of Scopes & Standards, Shannon leverages her extensive healthcare background to bridge the gap between clinical practice and the legal system. She is dedicated to delivering clear, evidence-based insights that empower attorneys and healthcare organizations to make informed, just decisions.
Shannon’s work is driven by her core belief: that by understanding the true cause of medical events, we can create safer systems, advocate for fairness, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.
